The B4xx is an electrophotographic printer which converts computer text and graphics into
pulses of light which “write” images on a photo-sensitive drum. Dry toner powder is attracted
to the drum, and the drum transfers the toner to the paper surface where it is permanently
fixed by a heated roller.
The printer’s light source is a Light Emitting Diode (LED) array which consists of about 5,000
(B410/B420:600dpi) or 10,000 (B430/B440:1200dpi) elements in a single row. LED array pro-
vides a superior optical stability and high reliability because they require no moving parts.
The imaging system uses an organic photo-conductor (OPC) image drum; and a dry, single-
component, non-magnetic toner powder.
The fixing system employs heat and pressure using a heated roller.
